In recent years, many Hip Hop artists have forgone lyrical content in search of a commercial appeal.  The result is often catchy hooks that ultimately lack substance, and while that is good for the balance in the market, there are still fans that crave some intellectual stimulation in the music. Enter Narez, a lyrical purist from Queens, New York who aspires to bring the best of both worlds together.

On August 9, 2011, Narez will unveil Successful Suicide, a 13-track original street album with appearances from Joe Budden, Queensbridge legend Nature, Slip-N-Slide’s Swazy Baby, freestyle phenom Emilio Rojas, Laws of the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and more. All production on the project is handled by Grammy-winning talent Omen (Drake, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Fabolous) and Jaywan (Jim Jones, Gucci Mane, Trey Songz, Paul Wall).

Omen also acted as executive producer on Successful Suicide, overseeing each element of the album. Narez attests that the musical chemistry Omen brings to his work is golden.

“Working with Omen is a blessing, and a privilege that not many indie artists can say they have with any producer of his caliber,” says Narez. “Omen is a genius at what he does. Our synergy is great, because the level of respect I have for him allows me to have total trust. I don’t need to question his calls, because I know that we’re both on the same page to make great music.”

In his quest to maintain substance in his lyrics, Narez still delivers riveting hooks and entertaining verses in all of his songs. He has traveled around the world, and enjoys an international following for his sincere approach to music. With over a decade of recording and performing under his belt, Narez is now ready to present himself to an even larger audience, and is expanding his horizons in the business arena as well.

“One of the things I am most proud of in my career thus far has been the opportunity to work with the artists and producers that I grew up listening to,” Narez explains. “Receiving that musical respect from my peers is priceless. On the business side, my biggest accomplishment is that I’ve been able to evolve and grow throughout the years as an independent artist, managing my own affairs.”

In 2010, Narez released the Hope of a Hostage album, hosted by New York’s DJ Superstar Jay. The project included features from Nature, Genovese from the First Cousins and model/rapper Gloria Velez, and was well received by Hip Hop fans. Now, with the August 9, 2011 release of Successful Suicide, Narez hopes that people can appreciate his story telling as much as they enjoy the array of talent he is able to rein in.

“The music on this project is pieces of my life, and what I went through at the time that I wrote each song.  I think that people can relate to it one way or another,” Narez says. “My two personal favorite tracks are ‘Cut’em Off’ and ‘Life Charger.’ In ‘Cut’em Off’, I describe why I have to cut certain people out of my life but I describe it through a story and giving graphic details. ‘Life Charger’ is also special to me because I wrote it right after a friend of mine committed suicide. I’m telling everyone that we all need a Life Charger to recharge ourselves, instead of letting ourselves die out.”

“As an artist and a person, my objectives are the same,” Narez continues, “to be as honest as I can in my music and in how I carry myself. Even if my stories or my conversations can make me look vulnerable at times, my strength is in being able to say what other rappers wouldn’t want to share. My victory is in how I overcome obstacles and motivate others to overcome similar obstacles.”
