Amadeus

In this day of “instant” computer-generated hits and cookie cutter beat making, producers with true musical ability are few and far between. Bronx-born percussionist Amadeus understands what musicianship means to making songs that will stand the test of time. The young producer has been making an impact on popular music with songs for Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Jim Jones, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Trina and many more, and is the band director for Atlantic Records R&B star Trey Songz. As the newest addition to Bad Boy’s legendary Hitmen, Amadeus is currently working on Diddy’s next solo album, due for release in 2009, amongst other projects.

Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson discovered his talent and passion for music in grade school, and began playing drums and piano at church (where his is active to this day) and in school bands. His first break came when he produced Foxy Brown’s 2003 single “My Life (Cradle 2 The Grave),” the title track for the Cradle 2 The Grave soundtrack, giving Amadeus his first Gold award. The success of the soundtrack was followed quickly by Foxy Brown’s street single “Get Off Me,” which addressed her tumultuous relationship with rapper Eve.

Amadeus took the initial success and ran with it, despite setbacks like having other producers take credit for his work. He has since created thumping tracks for various critically acclaimed artists. Amadeus has steadily been building a reputation as one of the most in-demand urban producers in New York, earning Platinum and Gold status with Mike Jones, Cam’ron, Fabolous and Danity Kane.

Other song collaborations include work with Jim Jones, Bow Wow, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, Papoose, Marques Houston, Trey Songz, Cee-Lo, Young Chris, Lil Wayne, Gillie Da Kid, Joe Budden and ESPN. Amadeus also put his magic touch on two slept-on singles for Lil’ Mo’s last project – “Yeah Yeah Yeah” featuring Grammy-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari and “Sumtimes I” featuring Jim Jones.

Amadeus has appeared on numerous TV show’s including BET’s 106 & Park (six times), Rap City and Rap City Top 10 with Mike Jones. His natural charm and communication abilities have transitioned nicely into business as he builds up his own Platinum Boy Music imprint. He is currently developing two projects, songstress Tiffany Mynon the “Angel of R&B,” and Hip Hop artist Ravenus P.N.I.C.

Tiffany has been singing and performing all of her life in various groups, including Assorted Phlavor (Epic Records),” explains Amadeus. “I believe in her, and look forward to sharing her and her God-given gifts with the world – I’m sure she would be of inspiration to so many women out there. Ravenus has a special gift, and he is going to make a great addition to the Hip Hop scene.”

With so many responsibilities, a serious management team became necessary, so Amadeus now has Francesca Spero, Harve Pierre and Conrad Dimanche of The Hitmen/Bad Boy Entertainment helping him achieve his goals. To keep his publishing business in order, Amadeus works with Cherry Lane Music Publishing. “I’ve been a part of the music business for 11 years now, since I was 16-yrs-old, and I’ve been solo for the majority of that time,” he explains. “I hooked up with a few people along the way, but I’ve landed about 90% of my placements on my own. Now I’ve joined a team with my name already established as a successful multi-Platinum producer, and it’s a great look to have people in my corner to support and back me 100%.

Many challenges arise when you’re on your way to the top, and Amadeus takes most in stride. Taking on projects with Bad Boy has definitely raised the bar for his talent, and is offering new outlets for creativity. “I must say the most challenging project I’ve had the opportunity to work on so far is Diddy‘s new album,” says Amadeus. “He has been blessed to have traveled the world to see the many varieties of music, and there is so much global influence with this new project. He’s has totally re-invented himself, and I’m working diligently trying to grab hold of his vision musically.”

As Amadeus grows in each of his ventures, he maintains a firm ideal for his talent. “Every day I try to venture into different genres of music, and I will not allow anyone to box me in to having one sound. Some producers are so distinct that when you hear the track you know who produced it immediately. Not me! I want to trick you every time – you will have to read the credits to know I produced it, because it doesn’t sound like the last song I did. It’s difficult, because artists and labels are scared to take chances on different sounds, but I know that in the end I’ll be remembered for my versatility.”
