Ti’Jean

There comes a time in life when you must give it all up to get everything you want. Brooklyn-born lyricist Ti’Jean made that decision early in his life, and has not looked back since. On March 1, 2011, Ti’Jean will unveil his latest work, Love & Rebellion: The Mixtape, hosted by world-famous personality DJ Whoo Kid. Songs on the project include the darker side of Ti’Jean’s creativity with “Scary MonStars “ and the breezier side as he displays on the lead single “Everything’s Illuminated.“

Ti’Jean first gained national attention with the 2009 project DJ Vlad & Ti’Jean present… iAmHipRock.com the Mixtape. He received critical acclaim on this mixtape due to his lyrical range, powerful content and natural ability to become one with the music. Ti’Jean’s rendition of “Imagine” by John Lennon renamed “Just Imagine” was an incredible Hip Hop adaptation of a truly classic song.

Born to Jamaican parents in New York and raised in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) Ti’Jean had the unique perspective of relocating to an area which craved traditional Hip Hop amid its own rich musical culture. Because of his array of influence, Ti’Jean defies boundaries with his one-of-a-kind flow and passion. He gives his soul to his art and to his audience, and this is apparent with his first line of any song.

The name Ti’Jean is definitely catchy, although it’s not a nickname. The young rapper’s parents named him with two different inspirations. The first was from author Jack Kerouac, founder of the Beat Generation (from whom The Beatles took their name), whose family nickname for him was “Ti’Jean.” The other inspiration is the Haitian tale about Ti-Jean and his brothers. In this story, Ti’Jean tricks the Devil with his own strategies and defeats him. Today, Ti’Jean the artist has similar challenges, as he sets free his own demons through music.

Ti’Jean’s latest project Love & Rebellion: The Mixtape is hosted by DJ Whoo Kid, the world’s most sought-after mixtape personality repping G-Unit, Sirius/XM Shade 45, RadioPlanet.tv, KRSP and other highly reputable brands. The collection of songs is raw, honest, personal, passionate and unapologetic. Ti’Jean’s collaboration with Whoo Kid resulted in a true tour de force, in a time when these projects are often overlooked and taken for granted.

Ti’Jean has been guided some of the finest minds in the business through his stints at Bad Boy Entertainment, DC’s 95.5 FM radio station and Love Nightclub. He has the unique experience of working first-hand behind-the-scenes, which lends him an educated perspective on his creative work. As a product of the internet generation, Ti’Jean also embraces the digital world, and contributes regularly to his blog at iAmHipRock.com.

“Having the ability to reach all of my supporters online around the world is important to me,” explains Ti’Jean. “Without them, this journey is not the same. No matter where I go, I keep in touch and update everyone to what’s going on.”

Ti’Jean could have been many things in life, certainly something easier than being a Hip Hop artist. Sometimes to be great you have to risk it all for what you love and what you want to become. Ti’Jean understands this, giving himself fully to music fans through his art – and he asks for nothing in return but a press of the play button.

“Music is by far the most powerful of the arts – it can incite a riot or proclaim undying love,” Ti’Jean explains. “To tell you the truth, I often wish to do both… Love or rebel? I don’t know which. I do know that no matter what, music is a part of it.”
