Step It Up
Hey friends!
Yes, it’s been a little minute since we’ve done a full-on news blast, but we know you’re sticking with us and checking out the site on the regular (hits don’t lie!). There is so much to talk about, but I’ll keep it to the point as much as possible.
If you’ve been doing your reading this summer, then you know that Tygereye is all over the place. Khia has been featured in XXL, Ozone, King, and so many other magazines and sites (y’all are loving the drama!), Serius Jones got his Show & Prove in the latest XXL. Cipha Sounds is in the latest Vibe. Khia, Cipha and DJ Scratch are all in the latest Scratch Magazine (Dr. Dre cover). Khia is in the new new Source (Ludacris cover). I could go on and on, but our media friends know the deal. Thanks for ALL of your true support for the Tygereye family. We truly appreciate your work and professionalism!
A few things have changed since we last did the news. Many new faces, and some big things for our longtime fam.
Big Sty is still grinding it out, and the reviews on his Stycology album finally started to roll in. Those of you who took the time to listen gave some amazing feedback, and we are appreciative. If you haven’t listened yet, please find it in your stacks and enjoy!
Dangerous LLC has been riding high the past month with Lloyd Banks “Hands Up.” Even though the buzz all surrounded Eminem’s production work on the track, please note that the beat originated with Dangerous LLC. CEO Chris Styles has quite a bit in the works. namely his own artist Deemi. As many of you know, Deemi is signed to Midi Mafia’s Family Ties, which is distributed through Atlantic. Her first single, “Soundtrack Of My Life,” was added to rotation on Hot 97 in August, and is picking up steam. You can hear that on both Midi Mafia and Dangerous LLC’s pages.
Speaking of Midi Mafia, most of you know that Dirty Swift was severely injured this summer in a motocross accident. He is recovering like a champ, and the team is in the studio finishing a multitude of work including songs for Fantasia‘s new album. They also have a track on Lloyd Banks’ Rotten Apple album, so check that out too.
Empire City Records and Sky Balla have been doing their thing with the Sickamore and Sky Balla mixtape project Lifestyles of the Hoodrich & Famous. You should have received your copy, so if you don’t have it, please hit us up. Sky debuted his new video for “Big Boy Things” in New York in August, and he’s been traveling all along the West Coast to promote his new music.
Jae Millz has been hot this summer with the new Scott Storch banger “My Swag.” We’re hoping for a video… Thank you to EVERYONE who is always checking up on Jae’s status. Once we have that album release date we’ll be so happy to get interviews rolling. Jae just wants to be sure he’s got some good things to tell you!
Jeru The Damaja is keeping up with his radio show and tour dates here and there as he prepares for his next album release. We’ll have the first single soon, and the album will drop early 2007.
Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem is absolutely on fire these days. After the phenomenal chart-topping success of Rihanna’s “SOS,” J.R. followed up powerfully with Rick Ross’ second single “Push It.” He’s got FOUR songs on Obie Trice’s new album, a song on Paris Hilton’s new album, and upcoming work with The Game, Trick Daddy, Mya, Mario and sooo much more. Get in touch with me for more information!
Lake and Cormega’s album My Brother’s Keeper was released on August 22, and reviews so far have been fabulous! We had a pretty nice album release party with Big Ced at his Video Mix weekly party at M1-5 Lounge in NYC, and premiered videos for both “The Oath” and “Q-U Side.” If you did not recieve your review copy of My Brother’s Keeper yet, please let me know.
We’re doing some special marketing for Mad Linx of BET’s Rap City, and he rocked quite a few parties for the Tygereye team over the summer. Most of you probably know that Linx got his start in radio, and is one of the best club DJs around. His publicist, Tonya Payton, got him a cool gig at the start of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, and she’s rocking some great press for him too. Check for us in Seattle on September 9 at the 15th Annual Virgo Party!
On the Seattle tip, I first met Mr. Long, whom many of you know from his years with Black Sheep, after a concert in Seattle. A few years later, we are now working together on his new album, Class of ’89. Funny how it all comes around so lovely! Please let us know if you’d like a review copy of the album.
Needlz is on a roll as usual, cranking out more hits than we can keep track of. His latest joint is Megan Rochell’s “Floating” (which you can hear on his page) and he’s got some more coming up with Lloyd Banks and the rest of the G-Unit crew. Additionally, Needlz is opening a new Pieces store in Hoboken, New Jersey. The trendy boutique fits right in with Needlz’ impeccable style – you already know!
Perion is quietly making more super-hot club bangers down in Pensicola. He got a lot of love from Juvenile’s “Way I Be Leanin” and the slept on “Duck Down” from Trick Daddy, but it’s just the beginning! Stay tuned for updates!
Reef The Lost Cauze is still doing his thing, even after not taking home the prize at the Scribble Jam Battle. I stillc can’t figure out why up and coming rappers are judging other up and coming rappers in a freestyle battle, namely rappers who lost to someone who is in the battle. So funny I forgot to laugh. Reading through people’s different accounts of the situation, it seems like some wack business. Regardless, Reef makes ill songs, and he’s got more coming for you. Enough said.
Remo Da Rapstar is a Bronx native with an undeniable hustle. Not only is Remo charming and witty, he’s also connected to some of the most respected DJs in the country, AND he has his own distribution network. His new street album, Rap Phenomenon, drops on September 19. Check your mail for packages this month!
You already know that Ron Browz is cracking out crazy hits for the streets. Always! He’s also got a track on the upcoming Lloyd Banks album entitled “Help,” which happens to be the next single. (In case your counting, that’s FOUR of our clients on Banks’ album. lol). Ron is in process of working on his Money Ave Allstars compilation to showcase his own label’s talent, and has been producing songs for DJ Webstar and Young B’s upcoming album. No, he didn’t produce “Chicken Noodle Soup,” although he was the first person to tell me about the dance a few months back. haha!
Serius Jones has been making his rounds with his new street album, King Me. Now the world knows that his battle skills DO cross over into songwriting abilities! We did a limited mailing on the album, but please do let us know if you need a copy for review.
While I normally go bananas with all the events I’ve been to, I’ll keep it short and mostly sweet. While I spent a lot of July going to listening events and random parties, August started off BIG in Orlando with TJ’s DJ’s Conference and the 1st Annual Ozone Awards. I took a few photos and got a few news bites for AllHipHop.com, and at the last minute I held down the Red Carpet for JB at the awards. Thanks to all of you lovely media people who withstood that hot day, loooong red carpet and the horrible jokes of the red carpet host. Thanks to all of you lovely artists and management/label teams who were so amazingly patient in all the chaos of the day. Much love to all my friends, old and new, who stood with me in the disdain for the hateful Orlando police department. The mayor should be ashamed. I am looking forward to the 2nd annual awards already, but hopefully TJ and JB will get a lot more love for all the good, productive and respectable business they brought to O-town.
I came back to NYC smack dab in the midst of AllHipHop Week. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event, to my fabulous AHH family (I’m so proud of you all!) and all the great artists who came through to make the events and shows so fantastic! Check out AllHipHop.com Alternatives this month for some amazing interviews. My team is the BEST! *pops collar*
On August 26 I hit the Vegas strip for a good eight days of 103 degree weather for the MAGIC convention. Special thanks to Miskeen, 310, Chilly-O, Phat Farm, Simmons Jewelry, Chaos, Apple Bottoms, Good Music, The Awesome Two, Melloe Won and all the rest of you who showed me love during the week. Extra special thanks to Merlie at Fed Ex. You rock!
I already mentioned that I’m heading back to Sea-town this weekend. Clean air, great seafood and lots of faces I miss. Can’t wait!!
Until next time,
Your most darling and most charming
Dove
